| Should we Tithe at Church? "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in Mine house, and prove Me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it" (Mal. 3:10). It is indeed the law of God that we do. I believe the Lord has demanded that we do. Some will say this is an Old Testament custom and it is not meant for the New Testament Church. Well these people have a perverse way of worshiping God. The tithe and offerings of a church is there for a reason, to keep the church going financially. The church has obligations just as our homes have obligations. Have you ever wondered how your Pastor gets paid, the light bill, gas bill, or the church is able to support Missionaries, or members in need? It all comes from the membership of the church. The churches paying these obligations are just as important as your home bills are. Money in the church does not just fall out of the sky, it comes from her members. Without the collection of the tithes and offerings of the church, it will soon disband. A sovereign church is self-supported and therefore the members are responsible for the upkeep of the obligations, it is the personal responsibility of every single member. Do you know how your church is doing financially? You certainly should. Do you know how much your bills are? Again you certainly should. Do you know how much your Pastor gets paid and is it enough? I certainly hope you do, if not ask and find out. Are you doing your part in financial support of the church? In small churches such as ours here in Texarkana, Texas it takes every member giving their part to make the books balance every month, as it does with all small churches. When a member does not meet their part of the tithes and offerings then someone else has to make up the deficit or the pastor has to suffer loss of pay to make up the shortfall. The bottom line is this, if we are members of a church then let’s all do our part in supporting her in every way including with our wallets. It does not take very long for the church to go broke if she has a shortfall every month. Ask, and find out how your church is doing and maybe give a little more until new members are added. I know that money comes hard, but maybe skipping on eating out one night a month will not hurt as bad if your church can make her budget with that extra thirty dollars. Ask your self "am I doing my part" and if the answer is no then ask yourself "what does the Lord think about that" and go with what your heart tells you.
